Overnight Boarding With Someone Always on the Floor

When you can’t be there, we are. Your dog’s overnight stay shouldn’t feel like a stay at all — it should feel like a sleepover with friends. That’s the standard we’ve built at Down Dog Lodge for Redondo Beach dog owners: an open, cage-free 12,000-square-foot facility where staff are physically present 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so nobody’s ever boarding alone in the dark.

For Redondo Beach families who need overnight dog boarding, that means a cage-free space where someone’s on the floor every hour of the night — not a kennel where dogs are locked in and left until morning.

What started in 2017 as one team’s mission to give dogs a genuine home-away-from-home has grown into the boarding facility South Bay pet parents, from Redondo Beach to El Segundo, turn to first.

What to Expect During Your Dog’s Stay

Every boarding guest at Down Dog Lodge enjoys:

  • Split by size, not squeezed together: small dogs settle into the Mini Lodge, bigger dogs get the Big Pen — each with its own indoor and outdoor space
  • Plenty of room to be a dog: the full 12,000-square-foot facility gives every guest space to move, not just a crate to sit in
  • Water always within reach: bowls placed throughout each area, checked and refilled continuously
  • A team that’s actually there: caring, attentive staff on-site every hour of every day — including holidays — so your dog always has company

Here’s What We Need Before Your Dog’s Stay!

Every new dog — Redondo Beach residents included — needs to clear our two-phase Temperament Test before their first boarding or daycare visit. It’s how we make sure your dog will genuinely thrive in a cage-free, group setting, not just tolerate it. Once both phases are passed and one full daycare visit is under their belt, they’re cleared to board.

If a longer stay — three nights or more — is on the calendar, we’d rather your dog try a single overnight first. In our experience, dogs settle into extended boarding far more easily once they’ve already had one stay under their belt, so that first “practice run” tends to pay off.

What Makes DDL Stand Out?

Cage-free care only works if someone’s actually present to manage it — and that’s the piece most boarding facilities skip. Here’s what Redondo Beach dog owners get with us:

  • Every guest passes our two-phase Temperament Test before joining the pack, so your dog is only ever grouped with dogs it’ll genuinely click with.
  • Meals and medications are handled as part of the stay, not billed as extras — nothing tacked onto your invoice afterward.
  • Want a peek at their day? We post daily to Instagram (@downdoglodge) so you can see the tail wags in real time.
  • And because a dog’s night doesn’t pause at 5pm, neither do we — someone from our team is on the floor around the clock, 365 days a year, holidays too.

Spay/Neuter Policy: Puppies between three and six months old are welcome intact. After six months, spay/neuter is required for admittance to Down Dog Lodge.

Does my dog need a Temperament Test before boarding?

Yes, all new dogs must complete our two-phase Temperament Test ($40/dog x 2 days) before their first boarding stay. We also recommend at least one full daycare visit prior to the first overnight.

Can I bring my dog's own food?

Yes, and we encourage it. If possible, we request that owners pre-bag and label each meal separately; this massively helps our team manage an efficient feeding for many dogs. If you’re unable to bring food or run out during your stay, we have dry & wet house food available for purchase.

What are your check-in and check-out times?

Check-in and check-out take place during lobby hours: weekdays from 7AM to 7:30PM, weekends/holidays from 10AM to 5:30PM. Early drop-off and late pick-up outside of these hours are available for a flat fee of $25/dog/service.

Why Redondo Beach Pet Parents Choose Down Dog Lodge

Redondo Beach dog owners tend to be an active bunch, and it shows — between beach days near the pier, walks along the Esplanade, and time at King Harbor, dogs here are used to being part of the plans, not left behind. That’s exactly the gap Down Dog Lodge fills when a trip, a work commitment, or a long weekend means your dog can’t tag along: a cage-free, social space just a short drive from home where they’re genuinely looked after, not just kept busy until you’re back.

It’s why so many Redondo Beach families have made the short trip up to El Segundo a normal part of their routine — whether it’s a weekend getaway or a longer trip away from home. And because we’re right on the Sepulveda corridor between Redondo Beach and the airport, dropping your dog off on the way out — and grabbing them on the way home — barely adds a turn to the trip.
